Appeal

Application to a superior court, which seeks to revise or vary a first-instance judgment.

A right to appeal to a higher court, often as of right, but sometimes the permission (“leave”) of the court is required. The appeal is often confined to serious errors of law or demonstrating errors in the assessment by the trial court of the evidence.
